Local people have been promoting the dignity of human life in October, which is Respect Life Month. Throughout the month, individuals and groups have been praying at the 40 Days for Life Campaign to end abortion, outside the Planned Parenthood abortion facility in Worcester. A candlelight vigil was held Sept. 27. Among those joining Bishop McManus Oct. 20 were religious from the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary and students from Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Still River. The campaign ends Nov. 5.On Oct. 1, Respect Life Sunday, pro-lifers held signs in Worcester and Shrewsbury as part of the national Life Chain, a public witness against abortion and a time of prayer for the United States and for people in crisis. Also Oct. 1, members of the Guild of Our Lady of Providence held a baby shower at Blessed Sacrament Parish’s Phelan Center in Worcester to collect gifts for agencies that help women and children: Problem Pregnancy, Visitation House and Pernet Family Health Service.
