Twenty-nine grants totaling $19,550 were presented Monday as part of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development. The collection is taken up nationwide each year on the week before Thanksgiving and 25% of the donations are used for local organizations who are working to combat poverty and the root causes of poverty in America.
Hundreds of people gathered to honor the priests of the Diocese of Worcester last week at Celebrate Priesthood - Taste of the Diocese. “It was a joyful celebration,” said Michael P. Gillespie, director of the diocesan Office of Stewardship and Development, which organized the gala.
Religious sisters were surprised and beaming at a Mass and reception honoring them Sunday, Oct. 22, at St. Paul Cathedral. WORCESTER – An appeal of Bishop McManus’ merging of Our Lady of Mount Carmel-St. Ann and Our Lady of Loreto parishes has been denied by the Vatican. The decision by the Congregation for the Clergy of the Holy See opened the way for Bishop McManus to deconsecrate Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church on Mulberry Street, which he has done by decree, effective Oct. 27.
St. Mary's Schools, Worcester, held its first blessing of animals Wednesday in order to mark the feast of St. Francis. The day began with Mass celebrated by Father James Hoey, chaplain of the schools. The day concluded with the blessing of animals.
