The Catholic School Department has announced the winter and spring head coaching appointments for the new St. Paul Diocesan Junior/Senior High School.
St. Paul is being formed by the merging of St. Peter-Marian and Holy Name Central Catholic Junior/Senior high schools.
“Several talented internal candidates readily expressed interest in these positions,” Michael J. Clark, associate superintendent and head of school at St. Paul, said in a letter to students, families, and staff on Friday.
Winter sports and coaches include: cheerleading: Tina Borelli; indoor track: (boys) Thomas Ronan, (girls) Megan Capurso; basketball: (boys) Jason Chavoor, (girls) Barry Finneron; dance: Arianna Sacco.
Spring sports and coaches include: baseball: Ed Riley; softball: Aimee Lee; tennis: Heather Bonczek and
outdoor track: Tom Decoteau.
St. Paul will also offer an ice hockey team (winter) and a lacrosse team (spring). The search for coaches is under way.
“Historically, Holy Name has not offered ice hockey, while St. Peter-Marian has offered it for several years, and more recently, expanded the program to include both a boys and girls team. Presently, both teams participate in a co-op; the boys with Holy Name (Central Catholic) and St. Bernard’s (Central Catholic), the girls with AMSA of Marlborough (the Advanced Math & Science Academy Charter School),” Mr Clark said.
“After careful consideration, we have decided a single, school-based ice hockey program best aligns with our values and long-term goals. … I hope to name a head coach very soon,” he said.
Mr. Clark thanked Athletic Director Jim Manzello and the student activities steering committee for participating in the process of choosing coaches.
“As with all St. Paul academic and athletic programming, our primary goal is the betterment of our St. Paul students. Our programming is committed to serving students through the prudent allocation of resources in promoting long-term success,” Mr. Clark said.
