Sister Thérèse Margaret Duross, of the Sisters of the Religious of the Assumption passed away June 12. Born in Philadelphia in 1927, Sister Duross lived in Worcester for most of the last 40 years, with roles that ranged from campus minister to theology teacher to trustee at Assumption University.
While she did that work outside the community, she also served as Provincial Superior, local superior and novice director at various times. Later in her life, when she had “retired,” she founded and led a very popular knitting ministry group that has met faithfully every Friday morning for many years.
Sister Duross is survived by a host of loving nephews and nieces, their spouses and their children, as well as her sisters in community. She is also survived by many friends, who found in her gentle, intelligent and loving spirit something deeply beautiful and healing for themselves.
A wake will be held at the Chapel of the Holy Spirit at Assumption University, Worcester on Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. with a period of prayer and remembering. On Friday, a visiting hour will be held at 9:30 a.m., followed by the Funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Religious of the Assumption can be made at assumptionsisters.org/donate.
