Sister Lorraine Gagne (Sister Paul-Bernard) died peacefully at Alliance Health at Marie Esther Health Center on Oct. 13. She was a native of Meriden, Connecticut, the daughter of Albert and Irene (LaQuerre) Gagne.
Sister Lorraine attended St. Laurent Elementary School in Meriden, Connecticut and Waterbury Catholic High School in Waterbury, Connecticut. At the age of 19, she entered the Congregation of the Sisters of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin in Nicolet, Canada. Following her profession on Aug. 14, 1961, she served in the ministry of education as a teacher in elementary schools in Massachusetts, Connecticut and New York. She served as principal in Meriden, Connecticut. She also devoted time to minister to the aging. Sister Lorraine spent her last years at Marie Esther Health Center where she received loving and professional care.
In addition to the Sisters of the Assumption, Sister Lorraine is survived by her five brothers, Raymond, Denis, Francis, Marc and Arthur, as well as nieces, nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. Her sister, Bernadette Dillon and her brothers Bernard, Paul, Raoul and Daniel predeceased her.
A Mass of Resurrection was held at St. Anne’s Chapel in Marlborough with burial in the East Street Cemetery in Petersham. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of Mack Family Funeral Homes 110 New Athol Rd. Orange, MA 01364.
