ROME – Alfredo Paul Porras, a seminarian from the Diocese of Worcester, was one of 68 members of the first year class at the Pontifical North American College installed as a Reader on Jan. 10. Reader is the first ministry given to seminarians in their study for ordination to the priesthood, according to information provided by the college. It gives the seminarian “the ministry within the Church to proclaim the scriptures at the Church’s liturgies,” according to a press release. Archbishop Paul R. Gallagher, Vatican secretary for the Relations with States, celebrated Mass and gave the seminarians a Lectionary, which contains the reading from Holy Scripture proclaimed at Mass.
