WORCESTER – The Diocese of Worcester announced Wednesday that it has completed the sale of the former St. Peter-Marian Junior High School at 751 Grove St. It was conveyed to Little Ones Child Care Inc. for $1.75 million. Little Ones had leased this property from the diocese since August 2016 and will continue to operate a daycare at the location.
“I am pleased to say that the net proceeds of this sale will go to the St. Paul Diocesan Junior/Senior High School Fund which we announced at the sale of 781 Grove St.,” said Bishop McManus. The high school property at 781 Grove St. was sold to Goddard/Homestead Inc. on Dec. 30, for $4.75M.
The recently announced St. Paul fund is expected to total nearly $2 million according to Paul Schasel, director of fiscal affairs for the diocese. The sale of 781 Grove St. satisfied the outstanding St. Peter-Marian loan for the original purchase and renovation of 751 Grove St. to operate as a junior high, as well as outstanding Holy Name loans for a wind turbine and roof replacements. That sale also satisfied the outstanding debt incurred for the new school with $1.5 million in costs for its physical plant and operations ahead of opening in August 2020.
“It is exciting to know that the St. Paul Diocesan school community will benefit from an operating budget that is not saddled by old debt as well as have a fund that will generate income to be invested into our school,” said Michael Clark, head of school. “That first investment has already begun with our recruitment efforts for the 2022-23 school year.”
