The Diocese of Worcester Catholic Committee on Scouting has announced the 2024 adult recipients of their annual Catholic scouting awards.
The DCCS consists of Catholic scouters who are registered in one or more of the scouting programs of the Diocese of Worcester including the Boy Scouts of America, American Heritage Girls and Girl Scouts of Central/Western Massachusetts.
The awards are by open nomination which are then voted upon by the DCCS.
The Bronze Pelican award recognizes distinguished service to Catholic scouting as youth ministry within the Diocese of Worcester. The 2024 Bronze Pelican award recipients are Andrea Gorman from Our Lady of the Assumption, Millbury and Jeffrey Somers from St. Bernadette, Northborough.
The Saint George award is the emblem awarded by the diocese to recognize the recipient’s outstanding contribution to the spiritual development of Catholic youth in the program of the Boy Scouts of America. The 2024 Saint George Award recipient is Timothy Messenger from St. Anthony of Padua, Dudley.
The annual awards Mass will be celebrated by Bishop McManus on April 27 at 10 a.m. at St. Paul Cathedral, Worcester. Bishop McManus will bless and present each recipient with their award. A reception will follow downstairs in the cenacle immediately following the Mass.
