New names have been announced for parishes that are merging July 1 in two areas of the diocese.
Our Lady of Hope Parish will be the name of the new parish being formed from St. Mary, St. Philip and St. James parishes in Grafton, according to decrees signed May 26 by Bishop McManus and Raymond L. Delisle, chancellor.
Divine Mercy Parish will be the name of the new parish being formed from St. Paul and St. Theresa parishes in Blackstone and St. Augustine Parish in Millville.
Another decree formalizes the merging of Good Shepherd Parish, Linwood, with St. Mary Parish, Uxbridge, effective July 1. St. Mary Parish will retain its name and the title of its church.
“The territory and care of souls of the territorial membership of Good Shepherd Parish, Linwood” are being entrusted to St. Mary Parish, located at 77 Mendon St., Uxbridge. St. Mary’s will also assume the goods, assets, burdens and liabilities of Good Shepherd. The sacramental records will be under the guardianship of St. Mary’s, the decree states.
The newly created Divine Mercy Parish will be located at the former St. Paul Parish, 48 St. Paul St., Blackstone. St. Theresa and St. Augustine churches will close, according to the decree, since St. Paul can provide ample worship space for all three communities.
Divine Mercy will encompass the territory and care of souls of the territorial membership of St. Paul’s, St Theresa’s and St. Augustine’s. It will assume the goods, assets, burdens and liabilities of the three parishes and all sacramental records.
The newly created Our Lady of Hope Parish will be located at the former St. Mary Parish, 17 Waterville St., Grafton. The building will retain the title St. Mary Church.
The territory and care of souls of the territorial membership of St. Mary, St. James and St. Philip parishes will be transferred and entrusted to the new Our Lady of Hope Parish.
Our Lady of Hope will assume the goods, assets, burdens and liabilities of the three parishes and all sacramental records.
