Pamela Acker, a medical researcher and science teacher who earned a master’s degree in biology from the Catholic University of America, will be speaking at the annual Worcester Catholic Women’s Conference held tomorrow at St. Joseph School in Webster.
Miss Acker’s scientific research includes vaccine development and delivery as well as genome sequencing. Since 2008 she has taught students from middle school through college. She is a devout Catholic and a consecrated single woman working with the Kolbe Center for the Study of Creation.
Pope St. John Paul II said, “Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth.” Pamela spreads this message by utilizing her knowledge of science and applying it to her studies of God’s creations. In 2020, she published the book, Vaccination: A Catholic Perspective, and has co-authored a high school biology textbook with the founders of Angelic Doctor Academy. In 2021, Pamela was included on Inside the Vatican magazine’s Top Ten list of men and women who live lives of service and bring hope to the world. Despite a congenital disability that makes it difficult to travel, she speaks at many conferences, both in person and virtually. She will be in person at the women’s conference.
The theme of this year’s conference is “Trust in the Lord with all your heart” and will be focused on ways to avoid false gods. Pamela will use her scientific training to inform attendees in her talk entitled “Avoiding the Errors of Scientism.”
Also speaking at the conference will be “The Relic Guy” and host of the popular podcast, “The Exorcist Files,” Fr. Carlos Martins; along with Ester Munt-Brooks, an educator and speaker; and Sr. Marie Bernard Maney and Sr. Katherine Maria Mueller from the Slaves of the Immaculate Heart of Mary. In addition to the speakers’ program, the sacrament of reconciliation will be available during the lunch break. The conference will begin with adoration and the rosary led by Bishop McManus who will also celebrate the vigil Mass at 5 p.m. in St. Joseph Basilica in Webster. There will be many exhibitors available throughout the day.
Tickets are $60 and include continental breakfast and lunch. Tickets can be purchased online or at the door. All conference details and registration information can be found at wcwconference.com, or call Corinn Dahm at 508-277-3969.
