Historically the Massachusetts Knights of Columbus chapters, assemblies and councils have supported the front-line battle against abortion. The annual Mother’s Day Rose Campaign is being reignited this year, the Jubilee Year of Hope, following a hiatus since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The campaign will give financial support to Problem Pregnancy, 495 Pleasant St., in Worcester which provides women alternatives to abortion through free counseling, pregnancy tests, and ultrasound scanning, in addition to physical and emotional support.
The MDRC 2025 is being coordinated through the Knights of Columbus Worcester Chapter. The Worcester Chapter has for many years also managed the Knights of Columbus Coats for Kids drive throughout the Diocese of Worcester. The Knights coordinator for the campaign is Jim Foyle (FDD, Council #2381, Cardinal Wright Assembly).
On Mother’s Day, celebrated on May 11 this year, Knights of Columbus members will have roses available at weekend Masses for a suggested donation of two dollars per rose. Proceeds will then be sent to Problem Pregnancy.
Roses can be acquired by contacting My. Foyle by emailing JJUSMC@aol.com or calling 508-867-7834 no later than April 27. The following information will be required: name of organization, point of contact, email/phone number(s), and number of ordered roses (bunches of 25). Rose distribution will take place on May 10 at Problem Pregnancy from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Parishes that do not have access to a Knights of Columbus entity can order roses through their pro-life coordinator (or designated representative) by contacting Mr. Foyle and providing the necessary information.
It is also suggested that other religious organizations in your area be contacted to support this effort. Past known participants have been Congregational, Baptist, Episcopalian, and Seventh-Day Adventist churches.
