The College of the Holy Cross has received a $3 million gift to support the college’s Center for Liberal Arts in the World from the family of J.D. Power III, Class of 1953.
Mr. Power founded J.D. Power and Associates, a global consumer research and marketing information firm.
The center will be renamed the J.D. Power Center for Liberal Arts in the World, the college announced. The center is the hub for the college’s experiential learning programs, including internships, student research, and community and project-based learning.
“As an alum, I am extraordinarily proud of the impact the College of the Holy Cross graduates have had on the world, and my family and I are thrilled to be in the position to support the college’s mission to develop men and women for others,” Mr. Power said. “I always felt that my Holy Cross education broadened my perspective and helped me understand the importance of seeking truth and questioning the status quo. I’m proud to help the J.D. Power Center for Liberal Arts in the World extend that same opportunity to future generations of Holy Cross graduates.”
Mr. Power was born in Worcester and is a graduate of St. Peter High School. His daughter, Susan Power Curtin, Class of 1993, is a member of the Holy Cross board of trustees. In addition to his daughter, his father, uncle, brother and grandson are Holy Cross graduates.
He and his family also have established the Power Family Scholarship to provide assistance to Holy Cross students from Worcester County, and the J.D. Power Worcester-Based Internship Fund to help fund paid scholarships for Holy Cross students at Worcester-area organizations.
