The former St. Casimir School building on Waverly Street has been sold for $1.1 million.
The building became part of St. John Parish in Worcester in 2009 when St. Casimir Parish was closed.
The city of Worcester had been leasing the building from the Diocese for the past 30 years to house the Worcester Alternative School. Its lease ended in June.
According to the Worcester Registry of Deeds, the property was sold to 22 Waverly, LLC, a newly formed corporation listed to Sarah C. Johnson of Auburn and managed by Timothy R. Johnson of Hollywood, Florida. The transaction was completed Dec. 7. Also included in the sale was a parking lot at 54 Harrison St. The St. Casimir Parish school opened in 1924. The school was closed in 1986. When the parish closed in 2009, its assets, and any liabilities, became part of St. John. The proceeds from the sale of the property benefit St. John’s.
“Civilly all the parishes in Worcester are part of Roman Catholic Bishop of Worcester a corporation sole, but canonically (in Church law) they are distinct. In effect, the diocese handled the transaction on behalf of the parish which no longer had need for the property,” according to Raymond L. Delisle, chancellor and director of communications for the diocese.
