FITCHBURG - The former Immaculate Conception Church at 59 Walnut St. has been sold for $309,000 to Rosaria Colomba of Reading, according to the diocesan Office of the Vicar General. Net proceeds from the sale will go to St. Joseph Parish, which owned the church. The parish was closed in 2010 as part of the reconfiguration of parishes in Fitchburg and the property became part of St. Joseph Parish. The sale was completed on Dec. 20, 2013. Father Richard F. Trainor, pastor of St. Joseph Parish, said the church building has been closed since 2010 and all religious items were removed. The pews went to St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish in Upton, he said. Mrs. Colomba said she will use the property to benefit the community in memory of her late husband, according to information from the diocese.
