WORCESTER – Emmanuel Radio Network, comprising two Catholic Radio stations in the Worcester and central Massachusetts market, is being sold to New York-based Holy Family Communications, Emmanuel Communications Inc. parent company of Emmanuel Radio Network announced Wednesday in a press release.
Emmanuel Radio Network, an affiliate of the EWTN Global Catholic Network, launched Catholic radio on 1230AM WNEB in Worcester in 2011 and purchased 970AM WESO in Southbridge in 2014.
“Emmanuel Radio was launched in the Diocese of Worcester, Massachusetts in 2011 to reach a broader audience with the message of Jesus Christ, in answer to St. John Paul II’s call for a New Evangelization in the Catholic Church,” said John Lauring, president of Emmanuel Communications.
“We are honored to have grown Emmanuel Radio from one to two stations while providing our listeners with ‘truth for life’ over the first decade of existence and feel confident that these stations will continue to grow spiritually and geographically over the next 10 years as a part of Holy Family Communications Catholic Media Network.” he said.
Holy Family Communications, also an affiliate of EWTN and based in Williamsville, New York, will begin broadcasting its Catholic programs on both stations on Jan. 1. The transaction is expected to be officially completed in the first quarter of 2022. Holy Family Communications owns The Station of the Cross, a network of Catholic radio stations in New York, Pennsylvania, northeast Ohio, and Boston.
“We are very pleased to be able to expand our programming into Worcester,” said Jim Wright, president of The Station of the Cross. “We look forward to building upon the great foundation that has already been laid and ensuring that listeners in the region continue to hear edifying Catholic programs that help them live the Catholic faith and grow closer to God.”
Mr. Lauring said that Mr. Wright has a “totally different business model” and will not be using local personnel.
With the addition of the two Worcester stations, The Station of the Cross Catholic Media Network will include 17 terrestrial stations.
Founded in 1999, The Station of the Cross broadcasts a combination of national shows from EWTN Radio and Ave Maria Radio, as well as several self-produced shows. Its programs are heard throughout the world on the iCatholicRadio mobile app and via radio in the following regions: Boston, MA (1060 AM); Buffalo, NY (101.7 FM); Lancaster, NY (90.7 FM); Elmira-Corning, NY (88.1 FM); Erie, PA (92.1 FM); Geneva, OH (89.5 FM); Oil City, PA (88.3 FM); Rochester, NY (92.9FM/1460 AM); Syracuse, NY (88.7 FM); Greece, NY (99.3 FM); Owego, NY (91.9 FM; Fredonia, NY (88.5 FM); Olean, NY (100.5 FM); Salamanca, NY (1590 AM).
