NORTHBOROUGH - Often, after she had attended daily Mass at 8:30 a.m. at St. Bernadette Church, Sister Marguerite Timothy Young, SND, would visit the Early Childhood Center at St. Bernadette School.
She spent time with the children and read to them, said Deborah O’Neil, principal.
Sister Marguerite, 86, former principal of the Julie Country Day School in Leominster and associate superintendent of Worcester Diocesan schools, died July 24, 2018, at the Notre Dame Long Term Care Center in Worcester.
But she will not be forgotten at the Early Childhood Center. The center will be dedicated on Jan. 28 to her memory by Bishop McManus.
Mrs. O’Neil suggested to Father Roland G. Falco, St. Bernadette pastor, that Sister Marguerite receive the honor.
“She was a presence in the parish,” Mrs. O’Neil said. “She lived in the convent for many years. She kept the charism of the Sisters here. The children were familiar with her.”
Sister Marguerite, from Woburn, entered the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur in 1950 and made her final vows in 1958. She taught at Notre Dame staffed schools in the greater Boston area for 21 years. She then was named principal of Julie Country Day School, where she served for 27 years. She was named associate superintendent of schools in 2001. Julie Country Day School closed in 2006.
Mrs. O’Neil said Sister Marguerite brought the cross from Julie Country Day School to St. Bernadette. It hangs over the entry to the school. She also gave a statue of St. Julie Billiart, founder of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur, to the early childhood center.
Bishop McManus is scheduled to celebrate Mass at 10 a.m. in the church for more than 400 students and guests. He is scheduled to bless and dedicate the center at 11 a.m. A reception will follow in the St. Bernadette Pastoral Center.
