WORCESTER – The faculty for the new St. Paul Diocesan Junior/Senior High School created a welcoming video for the school communities that are being merged to form St. Paul’s.
Looking forward to a new beginning in the fall, the faculty and staff of St. Paul’s recorded messages, using their cameras or phones, welcoming the students who are enrolled or considering enrolling in the school.
The video, “We are Saint Paul,” also gives the community the first look at the school seal and motto, school colors of gold and black, and the official logo that combines the seal and the school name.
On Tuesday the video was shared with students, their families and alumni at both SPM and Holy Name in an email from Michael Clark, associate superintendent for secondary schools and head of school. Several hours after being posted – at
www.vimeo.com/414900686 – more than 2,200 people had viewed it. The video was edited by Timothy St. John, current assistant principal at SPM and the assistant principal of student life for St. Paul. Mr. Clark will be acting principal for the 2020-21 academic year.
The motto for the school, “Fortior Unus,” is Latin for “Stronger Together,” a rallying call which arose among the students at both SPM and Holy Name last winter and appeared on banners at sports games and other events. Stronger Together recognizes a number of the school’s strengths, beginning with the two school communities united for a common cause. It also encompasses four other aspects of its identity as well, according to Mr. Clark.
The school seal displays a cross and a book, reminding everyone of being Stronger Together “as people who believe the light of faith inspires the love of learning,” he said.
Stronger Together also recognizes St. Paul as an urban-centered regional school that attracts students from around the world.
As a co-educational school it is Stronger Together “as a place where young men and women learn to lead and serve as equals,” he noted.
And, finally, it is Stronger Together in celebrating achievement and success in all its diversity whether in the classroom, on the field, on stage or in the community.
Later this week a website for St. Paul will be launched at
www.saintpaulknights.org. As the site name indicates, the school’s sports teams will be the Knights. That logo will be unveiled in the near future.
The sentiments of the faculty projected in the video include responses to the phrase “We are ..."
"Dedicated to excellence …
a new beginning …
united in our diversity …
an everlasting sign of God’s peace and hope …
dedicated and passionate educators …
a talented group of students and teachers …
one family …
stronger together …
excited to create new traditions.”
Mr. Clark concludes the video by talking about the school’s patron, “For Paul, true strength comes from God. And for us, as we come together as a new school community, as we move ahead into a new school year, let us do so knowing that we are stronger with God, stronger together and that we are – St. Paul.”
