Bishop to ordain 8 to priesthood Saturday

The Worcester Diocese’s first Brazilian priest is to be ordained next week, along with five Colombians and two local men.
Bishop McManus is to ordain them priests for the Diocese at a 10 a.m. Mass June 20 at St. Paul Cathedral. They are Deacons Andres A. Araque, Juan D. Escudero, Donato Infante III, Stephen E. Lundrigan, Mateus Monteiro de Souza, Daniel E. Moreno, Juan S. Ramirez and Carlos A. Ruiz.
The Mass is to include a Scripture reading in Portuguese, and one in Spanish, according to Msgr. Robert K. Johnson, diocesan Master of Ceremonies.
Much of the music will be in English and Spanish, said Richard Monroe, who is directing the music. He is director of the Our Lady of the Angels Church Choir, with which Deacon Lundrigan sang for many years. That choir and members of the Cathedral Choir are singing and John Totter is playing the organ.
Mr. Monroe and Father James S. Mazzone, director of the Office for Vocations, said a brass quartet and timpanist from Music Performance Services are being hired, thanks to a gift from an anonymous donor.
Father Mazzone said a public reception for all the new priests is being held in the lower level of the cathedral. All are welcome.

Following are brief biographies of the men to be ordained.
• Deacon Andres Alberto Araque, son of Alberto Araque and Stella Castrillon, was born Feb. 5, 1984 in Medellin, Colombia.
He attended Instituto Jesus de la Buena Esperanza, Instituto Salesiano Pedro Justo Berrio and Seminario Menor de Medellin. He got his licentiate in philosophy from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellin.
He came to the United States in 2008 to study for the priesthood in the Worcester Diocese.
He lived at Holy Name of Jesus House of Studies and studied English at Clark University. He got his bachelor’s in sacred theology and his master’s of divinity at St. Mary’s Seminary & University, Baltimore.
His parish assignments were: St. Paul, Blackstone; Our Lady of the Holy Rosary, Gardner; St. Anne, Southborough, his home parish; St. Patrick, Whitinsville; Good Shepherd, Linwood and St. Anthony of Padua, Dudley.
Bishop McManus ordained him a transitional deacon on May 31, 2014.
Father Edwin A. Gomez is to vest him at his ordination to the priesthood.
Deacon Araque’s parents, sister Paula Araque, three nephews and his aunt, who is his godmother, are to come from Colombia for his ordination.
He is to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at 10:30 a.m. June 21 at St. Anne’s, Southborough, with a reception following, and a Mass of Thanksgiving in Colombia July 5 at Our Lady of the Rosary Parish in Medellin.

• Deacon Juan David Escudero, son of Juan C. Escudero and Maria E. Muñoz, was born June 10, 1989, in Medellin, Colombia.
He attended the high school of the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Medellin and the university.
He came to the United States in 2012 to study for the priesthood for the Worcester Diocese. He lived at Holy Name of Jesus House of Studies and studied English at Clark University. He got his bachelor’s in sacred theology and his master’s of divinity at St. Mary’s Seminary & University, Baltimore.
His parish assignments were at St. Patrick, Whitinsville, and St. Patrick, Rutland, his home parish.
Bishop McManus ordained him a transitional deacon on Dec. 20, 2014.
Father C. Michael Broderick is to vest him at his ordination to the priesthood. Deacon Escudero’s parents and his sister and her boyfriend are to come from Colombia for his ordination. His aunt and cousin from New York are to come too.
He is to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at 10:30 a.m. June 21 at St. Patrick’s, Rutland, with a reception following. He is to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving June 27 at Holy Family Parish, Medellin, Colombia.

• Deacon Donate Infante III, son of Donato A. Infante and Jean E. (Brown) Infante of Lancaster, was born Aug. 29, 1987 in Framingham and grew up Southborough. His home parish is St. Anne, Southborough.
He attended Algonquin Regional High School, Northborough. He attended St. John’s Seminary in Brighton and got his bachelor’s and master’s in philosophy from Boston College. He got his bachelor’s in sacred theology from The Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, and is working on his licentiate of sacred theology at the Angelicum. While studying in Rome he has been living at the Pontifical North American College.
His summer parish assignments were at St. Paul Cathedral, Worcester; St. Paul, Warren; St. Euphemia, Kallmet, Albania; St. Anthony of Padua, Fitchburg, and St. Mary, Uxbridge.
He was ordained a transitional deacon Oct. 2, 2014 in Rome by Cardinal Donald Wuerl, Archbishop of Washington.
At his ordination to the priesthood he is to be vested by Msgr. James P. Moroney. Among those planning to attend his ordination are his parents, his siblings, other family members, friends from several states and Father David Gaffney of the Diocese of Providence and the North American College.
The new priest is to celebrate at a Mass of Thanksgiving at 1:30 p.m. June 21 at St. Anne’s, Southborough, with a reception following. He is also celebrating the 11 a.m. Mass June 28 at St. Mary’s, Uxbridge.


• Deacon Stephen E. Lundrigan, son of the late Edward M. and Sandra T. Lundrigan, was born Feb. 7, 1968 in Springfield.
He attended St. Mary Elementary School and Marianhill Central Catholic Junior/Senior High School, both in Southbridge. He got his bachelor’s in psychology from St. Anselm College, Manchester, N.H., and his master’s in counseling psychology from Assumption College. He had a year in residence at Holy Name of Jesus House of Studies and got his master’s of divinity at St. John’s Seminary in Brighton.
His home parish is Our Lady of the Angels, Worcester.
His parish assignments were St. Anthony of Padua, Fitchburg, and St. Cecilia, Leominster.
He was ordained a transitional deacon May 31, 2014 at St. Paul Cathedral.
Father Charles F. Monroe, pastor of Our Lady of the Angels, is to vest him at his ordination to the priesthood. Family and friends are to attend.
He is to celebrate at Masses of Thanksgiving at 10:30 a.m. June 21 at Our Lady of the Angels and at 10:30 a.m. June 28 at St. Anne Parish in Southborough. Public receptions follow the Masses.
• Deacon Daniel Eduardo Moreno, son of Libardo Moreno and Gladys Jimenez, was born Nov. 2, 1986 in Medellin, Colombia.
He attended Instituto Tecnico Industrial Pascual Bravo in Medellin. He got his bachelor’s in philosophy from Pontifical University Bolivariana while living at Seminario Conciliar de Medellin.
He came to the United States in 2010 to study for the priesthood for the Worcester Diocese. He lived at Holy Name of Jesus House of Studies and studied English at Clark University. He got his bachelor’s in sacred theology and his master’s of divinity at St. Mary’s Seminary & University, Baltimore.
His parish assignments were at St. Louis, Webster, his home parish; St. Anthony of Padua, Dudley; St. Anthony of Padua, Fitchburg, and St. Mary of the Assumption, Milford.
Bishop McManus ordained him a transitional deacon on May 31, 2014.
Father Joseph A. Marcotte is to vest him at his ordination to the priesthood. His parents, sister and two friends are coming from Colombia for his ordination.
He is to celebrate Masses of Thanksgiving at 5 p.m. June 20 at St. Louis, Webster, and 6 p.m. June 21 at St. Mary’s, Milford. Receptions are to follow. He is to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving June 27 in Santa Maria Goretti Parish in Bello, Colombia.


• Deacon Juan Sabastian Ramirez, son of Israel Ramirez of Argentina and Carmen Acosta of Colombia, was born Jan. 22, 1984 in Medellin, Colombia.
He attended Santa Elena High School in Medellin, and the University of Antioquia. He got his bachelor’s in philosophy from San Pio X Seminary in Istmina, Colombia.
In 2010 he came to the United States to study for the priesthood for the Worcester Diocese. He lived at Holy Name of Jesus House of Studies and studied English at Clark University. He got his bachelor’s in sacred theology and his master’s of divinity at St. Mary’s Seminary & University, Baltimore.
His summer assignments were at St. Anthony of Padua, Fitchburg, his home parish; St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester, and St. Roch Parish, Oxford.
Bishop McManus ordained him a transitional deacon May 31, 2014 at St. Paul Cathedral.
Father Robert D. Bruso is to vest him at his ordination to the priesthood.
He is to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at 10:30 a.m. June 21 at St. Anthony’s, Fitchburg. A public reception follows. He is to celebrate his first Mass in Colombia June 28 at St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish, Medellin.

• Carlos Andres Ruiz, son of Juan C. Ruiz and Maria V. Vasquez, was born Nov. 15, 1987, in Medellin, Colombia.
He studied at Instituto Parroquial Jesus de la Buena Esperanza and got his bachelor’s in philosophy from Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana in Colombia.
He came to the United States in 2011 to study for the priesthood for the Worcester Diocese. He lived at Holy Name of Jesus House of Studies and studied English at Clark University. He got his bachelor’s in sacred theology and master’s of divinity from St. Mary’s Seminary & University, Baltimore.
His parish assignments were St. John Paul II, Southbridge, his home parish, and Good Shepherd, Linwood.
Bishop McManus ordained him a transitional deacon Dec. 20, 2014.
Father Peter J. Joyce is to vest him at his ordination to the priesthood. Family members are expected to come from Colombia.
He is to celebrate a Mass of Thanksgiving at 10 a.m. June 21, at St. John Paul II, Southbridge, with a reception following.

• Deacon Mateus Monteiro de Souza, son of Valdecir Monteiro de Souza and Terezinha F. Vicente de Souza, of Brazil, was born April 27, 1988, in Adamantina, São Paulo, Brazil.
He attended Professor Eudecio Luiz Vicente High School. He did a preparatory year at St. Pio X Seminary, and got his bachelor’s in philosophy from João Paulo II College while living at Sagrado Coracão de Jesus Seminary. He then studied theology at Rainha Dos Apostolos Seminary, also in Marilia. He came to the United States in 2012 to prepare for the priesthood in the Worcester Diocese. He lived at Holy Name of Jesus House of Studies and studied English at Clark University.
He got his bachelor’s in sacred theology and master’s of divinity from St. Mary’s Seminary & University, Baltimore.
His parish assignments were at St. Anthony of Padua, Dudley, his home parish, and Holy Family of Nazareth, Leominster.
Bishop McManus ordained him a transitional deacon Dec. 20, 2014.
Father Paul F. Campbell is to vest him at his ordination to the priesthood. His family was unable to get visas to come from Brazil for his ordination, but five priests and a lay friend are to come from there.
He is to celebrate Masses of Thanksgiving at 4 p.m. June 20 at St. Anthony’s, Dudley; 10:15 a.m. June 21 at Holy Family, Leominster, and later at Nossa Senhora de Fátima Parish, Adamantina, São Paulo, Brazil.
