Bishop McManus ordained six men transitional deacons, in preparation for priesthood Saturday at St. Paul Cathedral.
James Boulette, Thiago Ibiapina and Derek Mobilio are being ordained at a 10 a.m. Mass and Cleber de Paula, Julio Granados and Juan Parra at a 2 p.m. Mass. Following are biographies of these men.
James J. Boulette
• James J. Boulette, son of Richard H. and Doris L. (Bilodeau) Boulette, was born on May 18, 1979, in Worcester. His home parish is St. Anthony of Padua in Fitchburg.
He attended Mill Swan Elementary School, Dr. Arthur F. Sullivan Middle School and South High School, all in Worcester, and finished his education at the Adult Learning Center in Worcester in 1997.
He attended Quinsigamond Community College, Curry College and Assumption University, earning his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Assumption in 2018.
He worked in information technology at Deluxe Corporation in Groton where he was a senior technology solutions and support analyst.
He received formation at Holy Name of Jesus House of Studies from 2015-2018 and in 2018 began studies at Pope St. John XXIII National Seminary.
His local parish assignments were St. Anthony of Padua, Fitchburg; Our Lady of Czestochowa, Worcester; St. Leo, Leominster; and St. Gabriel, the Archangel, Upton.
His Mass of Thanksgiving is at 9 a.m. Sunday at Christ the King Church in Worcester.
Thiago Rodrigues Ibiapina
• Thiago Rodrigues Ibiapina, son of Raimundo Nonato Ibiapina and Maria
Alzenir Rodrigues DeOliveira, was born on Aug. 10, 1993, in Fortaleza, Ceara, Brazil, where his home parish was Holy Trinity in Fortaleza.
For elementary and middle school he attended Centro Educacional Doris Johnson and Escola Joaci Pereira. He received his high school diploma from Liceu Domingos Brasileiro in 2010. From 2010-2015 he was a seminarian for the Archdiocese of Fortaleza.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Faculdade Catolica de Fortaleza in 2015 and his licentiate in philosophy from Euclides da Cunha in 2020.
He also did special studies about Edith Stein at Federal University of Ceará and the Pontifical Catholic University in Brazil, from which he received a certificate in 2020. A book he wrote, called in English, “Spirit, an Analysis of the Human Person according to Edith Stein,” was published in 2017 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
He has also written chapters and poems for other books, published several articles online and in academic journals and given talks about spirituality and philosophy in Brazil and via Zoom.
In 2016 he came to study for the priesthood for the Worcester Diocese and is working on his master of divinity degree at St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore.
His local parish assignments were St. Mary of the Assumption, Milford; Blessed Sacrament, Worcester; Good Shepherd, Linwood and St. Augustine, Millville; St. Paul Cathedral, Worcester; Immaculate Heart of Mary, Winchendon; and St. George, Worcester.

Derek Anthony Mobilio
• Derek Anthony Mobilio, son of Anthony F. Mobilio and Michelle A. (Robidoux) Mobilio, was born on Nov. 14, 1989, in Worcester. His home parish
is St. Francis of Assisi in Barre.
He attended Our Lady of the Angels Elementary School and, in 2008, graduated from St. Peter-Marian Central Catholic Senior High School, both in Worcester.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in applied mathematics and meteorology from State University of New York at Oswego in 2012, his master’s degree in statistics from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2014, and his masters of education degree from Providence College in 2016.
He taught mathematics and religion at St. Mary’s High School in Worcester from 2014-2016. In 2016 he entered St. John’s Seminary in Brighton where he is working on his bachelor’s degree in sacred theology.
His local parish assignments were Blessed Sacrament, Worcester; Our Lady of Providence, Worcester; Good Shepherd, Linwood and St. Augustine, Millville; and St. Mary, Shrewsbury. He also participated in the 2019 Tertio Millenio Seminar in Poland which was created “to deepen the dialogue on Catholic social doctrine (and the teachings of St. Pope John Paul II) between North American students and students from new democracies of central and eastern Europe.”
He has a Mass of Thanksgiving for invited guests only this Sunday at St. Joseph Chapel in Barre. His Mass of Thanksgiving that is open to the public is at 11 a.m. June 13 at St. Mary Parish in Shrewsbury. A light reception is to follow.
Cleber de Paula Rodrigues
• Cleber de Paula Rodrigues, son of Sebastião Rodrigues de Paula and Maria das Graças de Paula, was born on April 5, 1982, in Ipatinga, Minas Gerais,
Brazil.
He attended Escola Estadual Wilson Alvarenga and received his high school diploma from Escola Estadual Nilza Luzia de Souza Butta in 1999.
He received a degree in philosophy in 2004 from Faculdade São Luís in Brusque, Santa Catarina, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology in 2017 from Faculdade Única in Ipatinga.
He was in formation in Brazil with the Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus from 2002-2005 and the Missionaries of St. Charles (Scalabrinians) from 2010-2014, with whom he studied theology for a year in Bogotá, Colombia.
He worked as a roll grinding machine operator at a steel mill called Usiminas, a salesperson at John Paul II Catholic Bookstore, and an administrative supervisor at a party equipment rental place called Toninho Locações, all in Ipatinga.
He came to study for the priesthood for the Worcester Diocese in 2017 and is working on a bachelor’s degree in sacred theology and a master of divinity degree at St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore.
His local parish assignments were St. Cecilia, Leominster; St. Leo, Leominster; and Holy Family, Worcester.
He has Masses of Thanksgiving Sunday at St. Joseph Church at Holy Family Parish in Worcester at 9:30 a.m. in English and 11 a.m. in Portuguese.
Julio Rafael Granados Alvarado
• Julio Rafael Granados Alvarado, son of Hidalgo A. Granados and Nelly Alvarado, was born on Dec. 8, 1992, in Santa Marta, Magdalena, Colombia.
He attended Centro Educativo Maria Goretti and graduated from Institucion Educativa Distrital Pozos Colorados high school on Dec. 9, 2009.
He attended Universidad Catolica de Oriente, in Rionegro, and Seminario Nacional Cristo Sacerdote in La Ceja, from which he got a certificate in philosophy in 2013, both in Antioquia, Colombia.
He was a philosophy and religious education teacher and led the pastoral program at a public school called Institucion Educativa Juan Manuel Ruda in Remolino, Magdalena, Colombia. He was a volunteer at the World Youth Day in Panama in 2019 with his parish, St. John Paul II in Southbridge.
He came to study for the priesthood for the Worcester Diocese in 2017.
He is working on his bachelor’s degree in theology and master of divinity degree at St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore.
Friends from Colombia who are like family to him – Lilibeth Rueda and Father Christian Caceres – are to be at his ordination.
His local parish assignments were St. John Paul II, Southbridge, and St. John, Guardian of Our Lady, Clinton.

Juan David Parra Rave
• Juan David Parra Rave, son of Jaime de Jesus Parra Sanchez and Luz Elena Rave Rendon, was born on July 30, 1994, in Angelopolis, Antioquia,
Colombia. His home parish there is Santo Angeles Custodios.
He attended Centro Rural Educativo Santa Rita and Institucion Educativa San Jose, from which he got his high school diploma in 2010.
He went to Seminario Mayor de la Santa Cruz and Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, from which he received a philosophy degree in 2014.
He did volunteer work at large food pantries called Banco de Alimentos Medellin and Saciar, where he was in charge of the selection of food. He was also involved in various missions in Colombia.
In 2017 he came to study for the priesthood for the Worcester Diocese. In 2019 he began studies at St. Mary’s Seminary & University in Baltimore, where he is working on a master of divinity degree.
His local parish assignments were St. Mary, Shrewsbury, his home parish here, and St. Anne, Southborough.
He has a Mass of Thanksgiving at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, at St. Mary’s. A reception is to follow.
