Two pastors in the diocese are planning to retire this summer, and one died earlier this year, which leads to staffing changes in their parishes and other parishes.
Bishop McManus announced the following changes, all effective July 1.
Msgr. Francis J. Scollen, pastor of St. Peter Parish in Worcester, for 35 years, is retiring while remaining at the parish to minister. Succeeding him as St. Peter’s pastor is Father José A. Rodríguez, now pastor of Holy Family of Nazareth Parish and chaplain of Capilla Santisima Trinidad (Holy Trinity Chapel), both in Leominster.
Holy Family and Santisima Trinidad are receiving an administrator – Father Julio R. Granados, now associate pastor of St. John, Guardian of Our Lady Parish in Clinton and Immaculate Conception Parish in Lancaster.
The new associate pastor of St. John’s and Immaculate Conception will be Father Thiago Ibiapina, now associate pastor of Annunciation Parish in Gardner.
Annunciation’s new associate pastor will be Father Luke A. Johnson, ordained a priest on June 1.
This summer’s other retiree is Father Terence T. Kilcoyne, pastor of Holy Trinity Parish in Harvard/Bolton for the past 14 years. Becoming administrator there is Father Kevin F. Hartford, now sacramental minister at St. Peter Parish in Worcester.
St. Anne Parish in Shrewsbury lost its pastor, Father Walter J. Riley, to sudden death Feb. 9, and Father Richard F. Trainor, minister to priests, has been temporarily filling in. On July 1, the parish is to receive a new pastor – Father Adam R. Reid, now pastor of Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish in Webster.
Sacred Heart is receiving an administrator – Father Lucas M. LaRoche, now associate pastor of St. Gabriel the Archangel Parish in Upton. No new associate pastor was announced for St. Gabriel’s. Bishop McManus has also named Father LaRoche associate diocesan archivist. Raymond L. Delisle is the archivist as part of his duties as diocesan chancellor.
Father Jose F. Carvajal is becoming head of school at St. Paul Diocesan Jr./Sr. High School in Worcester, with residence at St. Paul Cathedral rectory in Worcester. He is currently associate pastor of St. Mary Parish in Shrewsbury.
Becoming St. Mary’s associate pastor is Father Stephen J. Mullaney, newly ordained.
Father Juan D. Parra is taking on additional duties of Spanish ministry at St. Joan of Arc Parish in Worcester, while remaining associate pastor of St. Paul Cathedral Parish, replacing St. Joan of Arc’s former associate pastor, Father Gustavo A. Correa, who is on a personal leave of absence.
