STURBRIDGE – Father Jerome A. Lively, A.A., 57, died Sunday, Feb. 27, in Harrington Memorial Hospital, Southbridge, after an illness.
Besides his Assumptionist family, he leaves seven siblings, Jonathan Lively, Veronica Smead, Hanna Lively, Timothy Lively, Daniel Lively, Martha Lively and Christopher Lively; and many nephews and nieces.
He was born on Jan. 20, 1965, in Greenfield, a son of Frederic and Patricia (Godbois) Lively. He was a 1984 graduate of The Academy at Charlemont in Charlemont and graduated from St. John’s Seminary College in Brighton in 1989 and then from Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge in 1999. He also completed advanced studies in Rome.
He made his religious profession on March 4, 1995, and was ordained to the priesthood on May 12, 2002, by Bishop Daniel P. Reilly.
Father Lively taught theology at Assumption College, now Assumption University, from 2002 to 2019. He then was named local superior and was the director of faith formation at St. Anne and St. Patrick Parish until the present time.
His funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 4, in the St. Joachim Chapel at St. Anne and St. Patrick Parish, 16 Church St., with the Father Dennis M. Gallagher, A.A., provincial of the North American Province, as the principal celebrant. Burial will be in St. Anne Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5-7 p.m., Thursday, March 3, in the chapel followed by a vigil service at 7 p.m. with the Father Alex Castro, A.A. as the presider.
