Pledges to Partners in Charity have exceeded $1 million the week after Partners launched it general appeal on Ash Wednesday.
“We appreciate all of your continued efforts in promoting the 2020 Partners in Charity Appeal. I am pleased to share that we are at $1,012,288 of our $5 million goal,” Michael P. Gillespie, diocesan director of the Office of Stewardship and Development, said Thursday. “This is outstanding!” he exclaimed. The appeal is at 20 percent of its goal.
Ten parishes started Partners early to accommodate the ongoing Legacy of Hope capital campaign schedule, but the remainder began their appeal to coincide with Lent. Ideally, the early parishes will finish their Partners collection before embarking on Legacy of Hope in March, he said.
“Many parishes this year are focusing their efforts on the number of gifts and not the total goal amount. This is proving to be a successful approach in bringing in new gifts and welcoming lapsed donors that haven’t given in many years,” Mr. Gillespie said. He reports that, so far, 1,903 gifts have been counted.
Many parishes plan to conduct the in-pew solicitation on March 14 and 15, and some may choose March 21 and 22 instead, Mr. Gillespie said.
Partners in Charity helps support the day-to-day operations of 25 ministries with charitable, educational, and ministerial focuses.
“The call to serve involves something special, to which we must be attentive. Serving means caring for their vulnerability. Caring for the vulnerable of our families, our society, our people,” Pope Francis has said.
