Laura Phelps, a national speaker, author, and Patreon creator with big ideas for Jesus, will speak at the upcoming Worcester Catholic Women’s Conference. The title of her talk is, “Standing at the foot of the Cross.”
As a cradle Catholic, Mrs. Phelps grew up learning a lot about Jesus, but it would not be until her adult years – when she hit a personal rock bottom – that she would come to encounter human Jesus, according to her biography.
While attending a Dynamic Catholic Conference, she was challenged by speaker/author Matthew Kelly. He said, “If you want your life to change, go to daily Mass for two weeks.”
Desperate for her life to change, Mrs. Phelps took him up on the challenge. That was over ten years ago, and she has been a “daily Masser” ever since.
Turns out, her life did change, and the difference has everything to do with a personal encounter with Jesus, she says. And guess what happens when you are saved by Jesus? He sends you out!
In 2016, Mrs. Phelps was “sent” to Walking with Purpose, a women’s Catholic Bible Ministry, that enables women to know Christ through Scripture. Beginning her journey as a pastoral parish coordinator, she has served the women of Walking With Purpose as a regional area coordinator, blogger, Youtuber, and content creator. No matter her role, her mission remains the same: meet women where they are and offer a safe place to talk about Jesus and the difference he makes.
In 2019 Mrs. Phelps took to the main stage at the Walking With Purpose Leader’s Gathering and has spoken to countless women across the country, in parishes and women’s conferences, ever since.
In between cleaning the kitchen and walking the dogs, you can find Mrs. Phelps blogging on her personal website, as well as sharing new content, and videos, while offering workshops, group Marian consecration, and monthly video reflections for her Patreon community. She is currently filming her second season of Walking With Purpose’s YouTube talk show, Truth With Handles: The Conversation, and is excited to launch her new podcast, Amen To That!
Relatable, honest, and often hilarious, Mrs. Phelps generously shares the pain of her life, offering others the hope and healing she has found through Jesus and Mary. Conference organizers say women will undoubtedly walk away from her talk feeling lighter, stronger, and not so alone.
Author of Victorious Secret: Everyday Battles And How To Win Them, and Sweet Cross: A Marian Guide To Suffering (highlighted on The Abiding Together podcast as Michelle Benzinger’s “one good thing”!), Mrs. Phelps is on a personal mission to wake women up to the battle and to hold fast to the truth we try so hard to ignore: that there is no way around your cross, so you might as well embrace it.
Mrs. Phelps’ OSV Innovative talk, “How To Cope With Unjust Suffering” was released in May. She has been a guest on many radio shows and podcasts, including The Katie McGrady Show on Sirius XM and Danielle Bean’s, Girlfriends. She lives in Newtown, Connecticut with her husband Nick, four children, and “way too many pets.” As she likes to say, “It’s not all good, but it is all grace.”
The 2022 Worcester Catholic Women’s Conference will take place Oct. 1 at St. Joseph School in Webster. The theme of this year’s conference is, “Embrace the Cross.” Tickets are $45 and student tickets (16-22) are $25. Seating is limited and tickets are on sale now!
Other speakers at the conference include Bryan Mercier, Sonja Corbitt, and Constance Hull.
In addition to dynamic speakers, many diocesan and religious priests will participate by hearing confessions during the lunch break. The sacrament of reconciliation has become a significant staple at the conference and organizers hope women take advantage of this wonderful opportunity during the day. Also on hand will be many exhibitors available to enhance attendees’ faith journeys and help get some early Christmas shopping completed.
Bishop McManus will start the day with Adoration and will be the principal celebrant and homilist for Mass at 5 p.m.
