Jacqueline (Ptak) Gemme, 87, mother of Father Stephen Gemme
WESTMINSTER – Jacqueline (Ptak) Gemme, 87, formerly of Westminster, died peacefully on Jan. 30, in Clove Lake Rehabilitation Center, Staten Island, New York after an illness.
Mrs. Gemme was married for 65 years to the love of her life, Raymond J. Gemme Jr., who died in 2019. She is survived by her four children, April Turner and her husband Ross of Leominster; Holly Lira and her husband, Antonio of Staten Island, New York; Raymond J. Gemme III of Quincy and Father Stephen Gemme, Chaplain of St. Vincent Hospital of Worcester; her seven grandchildren, Kristy Turner of Leominster, Lindsey Gesualdi and her husband, Michael of Leominster, Morgan Sansbury of Buffalo, New York, Taylor Sansbury of Staten Island, New York, Brett Sansbury of Wilmington, Delaware, Raymond Joseph Gemme IV of Leominster, and Melissa Gemme of Leominster; two great grandchildren, Eva Gesualdi and Amber Gesualdi both of Leominster; two sisters, Norma Seretto and Sandra Henault and her husband, David and many nephews and nieces.
Jacqueline was born in Fitchburg daughter of Joseph Ptak Sr. and Winifred (Dwyer) Ptak and is also predeceased by a sister, Geraldine Cheries and two brothers, Joseph Ptak Jr. and Eugene Ptak.
Mrs. Gemme worked as a waitress at the Old Mill Restaurant in Westminster for many years, as well as for Cormier Catering in Fitchburg. She was an avid practitioner of arts and crafts. She was also deeply devoted to her Catholic faith having been a parishioner at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Parish in Westminster for more than 50 years.
A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by her son, Father Stephen Gemme will be held Friday, Feb. 5, at 10 a.m. in the St. Paul Cathedral, 15 Chatham St., Worcester. Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Fitchburg.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, February 4, from 5 to 630 p.m. in the Cathedral, with a vigil service to be held at 6:30 p.m.
Face coverings and social distancing in accordance with CDC guidelines will be in effect for all of the funeral services.
