Emmanuel Communications Inc. will launch a new FM radio station in the Worcester area on Sept. 13, according to Cindy R. Dorsey, president of Emmanuel Radio.
This will be the third station making up Emmanuel Radio’s Catholic radio network in the Worcester area. There are two AM stations: WNEB at 1230AM in Worcester, and WESO at 970AM in Southbridge. The new station’s call letters also will be WESO, 101.1FM, Southbridge; it is expected to reach into Worcester.
The three stations will form the largest Catholic-formatted radio station cluster in the Massachusetts and northern Connecticut area, according to information provided by Emmanuel Communications.
“We are pleased to expand our station footprint in the New England market consistent with the continuing explosion of Catholic radio broadcasting around the country, and in response to the requests we have received from our current loyal audience base,” Mrs. Dorsey said.
To mark the new station, Emmanuel Radio will host a Launch Party from 6-9 p.m., Sept. 13 in Ballroom A of the Tsotsis Family Academic Center at Assumption College, 500 Salisbury St., Worcester. EWTN’s Dr. Ray Guarendi, host of “The Doctor is In,” will be the featured speaker.
The fundraiser will include complimentary coffee and light dessert. Mrs. Dorsey asks for people to RSVP to her by calling 508-767-1230 or emailing cindy.dorsey@1230radio.com by Sept. 7.
All three local stations are affiliates of the EWTN Global Catholic Radio Network and will continue to produce additional live and local programming from their main studio in downtown Worcester. Emmanuel Radio’s stations will reach more than 400,000 people in Central Massachusetts and Connecticut, according to a press release.
“The addition of an FM presence in the Central Massachusetts market will expand our geographic coverage, increase our audience size, and generate new programming opportunities for sponsors,” Mrs. Dorsey said. “We are grateful for the long-term support of our local listeners and sponsors, as well as the management team at EWTN, for the continued growth of these stations over the seven years since our first station, 1230AM WNEB, launched on May 1, 2011.”
Emmanuel Radio broadcasts 24 hours a day, seven days a week on air; online at www.1230radio.com; and on smartphones via the eCatholic mobile app. Followers can also like 1230AM on Facebook and find 1230AM Emmanuel Radio on Twitter. Popular programs include the broadcast of the daily Mass, daily rosary, talk shows targeted at both Catholic and non-Catholic listeners, and the seasonal live broadcast of College of the Holy Cross basketball, Mrs. Dorsey said.
