Three seminarians who live at the Holy Name of Jesus House of Studies have tested positive for COVID-19. Results were determined Monday and Tuesday. One man was taken to the hospital Wednesday with shortness of breath and discharged the same day.
Those who tested positive are remaining in their rooms and using a separate bathroom at the House of Studies while the others are under a two-week quarantine beginning from the last time they were in contact while not wearing PPE. Decisions regarding the end of home isolation and quarantine will be determined by CDC guidelines.
Father Donato Infante III, director of the Office for Vocations, said nine men are currently living there, including himself.
Two other resident seminarians were assisting at parishes over the Easter Triduum and were told to stay in the parishes.
Father Infante said the parishes where the seminarians served have been notified of the illness and are taking appropriate precautions.
The most seriously ill seminarian assisted at St. Paul Cathedral during Holy Week. The cathedral staff is under quarantine for 14 days. No one else there has exhibited signs of sickness, Father Donato said.
With no public Masses being allowed, the seminarians had limited contact with people at the parishes.
Father Infante has asked for prayers for the recovery of the people affected by the virus.
