Bishop McManus has asked pastors to consider taking a second collection at Masses tomorrow and Sunday to aid those in New York and New Jersey who were hit hard by Superstorm Sandy last week. The bishop said that, knowing the generosity of the people of the diocese, he is sure many will want to help. He said that collections should be sent to the diocesan finance office, which will forward all donations to Catholic Charities USA. He said Catholic Charities USA already is coordinating massive relief efforts with local authorities. “Let us also join in prayer this weekend and in the coming weeks that the Holy Spirit will bring hope for those who are feeling abandoned, solice to those who have lost a loved one from the storm and eternal rest to those who have lost their lives,” the bishop said in his letter.
