Bishop to host Thanksgiving

The annual Thanksgiving dinner, hosted by Bishop McManus and Catholic Charities, will be served at noon Nov. 24 in the St. Paul Cathedral Cenacle in the cathedral basement. Dinners also will be delivered to those who are homebound.
The bishop also will host his annual Christmas dinner Dec. 25 in the Cenacle.
According to reports in The Catholic Free Press, the holiday dinners began with Bishop Flanagan in 1961. Bishops have been hosting people for the holidays ever since.
For the two traditional holiday dinners last year, volunteers served more than 3,750 Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners at the Cenacle or to the homes of those unable to come to the cathedral, according to Robert Cronin, dinner coordinator.
Buses will provide transportation to and from the cathedral for those who want to dine with Bishop McManus, the host along with Catholic Charities.
Volunteers who want to help with home deliveries of dinners should report by 9:30 a.m. to the Catholic Charities main office at 10 Hammond St., Worcester. Volunteers to help serve the dinners at the cathedral should report to the Cenacle by 11:30 a.m.
Those who wish to make donations to help defray the cost of the dinner may do so by sending contributions to Catholic Charities, 10 Hammond St., Worcester MA 01610.

Spencer parish offers dinners

SPENCER - Mary, Queen of the Rosary Parish will again serve Thanksgiving dinner at noon at the parish hall and deliver Thanksgiving meals to homes.
Volunteers set up, prepare, cook, serve meals and clean up afterwards. Other volunteers deliver meals. Any who wishes to volunteer may call 508-885-3111.
Those planning to attend the dinner or to have a meal delivered should also  call that number so the parish can make sure that there are enough meals, according to a parish spokesperson. Last year, 60 to 70 people were served either at home or at the parish.
