This year’s annual Adopt-A-Student Recognition Dinner has been canceled as a precaution against the COVID-19 coronavirus.
Robert R. Pape, chairman of the
Adopt-A-Student Committee, posted a message on the program’s website Thursday announcing the decision to supporters, teachers, students, parents and guests.
The committee and Bishop McManus made the decision to cancel the dinner which was scheduled for April 2.
“We are concerned for our guests during this difficult time in our world. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,” Mr. Pape said.
He said the program book with advertisers will still be printed and mailed out to individuals.
“We appreciate all you do to help Change a Life with your continued support of this program,” Mr. Pape said.
The recognition dinner is a major fundraiser for the Adopt-A-Student program which provides scholarships to students whose families would otherwise be unable to send their children to Central Catholic schools in the Diocese of Worcester. Scholarships are presented to students who are not only academically qualified “but specifically seek an education in the tradition and environment of Catholic schools, thus providing society with people of faith and strong moral values,” according to the website.
