February 12, 2015The organizers for the annual 40 Days for Life spring campaign are seeking volunteers for public vigils to be held from 7 a.m. to 7 pm. Feb. 18 to March 29 across from the Planned Parenthood facility on Pleasant Street.
Sandra Kucharski, who shares communications responsibility for the campaign, said volunteers are needed for each hour, each day during the 40-day campaign.
For those who are not used to praying in public, Sundays are great days to come to the vigils. The Planned Parenthood office is closed on Sundays, she said, and there is less traffic.
“Sunday is a great family day,” she said, “so bring the family and make it part of the family Lenten sacrifice.”
The campaign will begin Feb. 17 with a Mass, dinner and speakers’ program at St. Mary Church, 17 Waterville St., North Grafton. A panel of students and young adults will talk about how they became involved in the pro-life movement, according to a press release from campaign organizers. Those planning to attend the dinner should call 508-839-7674. There is no charge for the dinner. Free-will offerings will be accepted.
On Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, there will be a candlelight vigil from 6:30 to 7 p.m. across from Planned Parenthood. Organizers have asked those who plan to take part to bring their own candles.
The parishes in Grafton will host a Living Rosary from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. March 4 across from the building where abortions are performed. On Palm Sunday, March 29, there will be a closing prayer service from 3 to 4 p.m. followed by adoration and benediction in the Problem Pregnancy chapel at 495 Pleasant St., to mark the end of the campaign.
